The best part about vanity is when it gives back: Sharing my latest obsession

Granted that it’s pretty easy to find them, sometimes some people just need an arrow pointing in the right direction.

Also, a little trivia: M.A.C. (Which actually stands for “Make-up Art Cosmetics) Cosmetics is actually an independent brand founded in Canada that is now under Estee Lauder. Originally it was designed purely for use by make-up artists but thankfully they’ve decided to widen their scope and offer these gorgeous cosmetics to us regular folk!

Taking a leaf out of an expert's book...

...I would like to thank Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore (http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/) for her Ultimate Guide to Blogging tips (http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/tagged/blogging) that inspired me to really make my Tumblr blog something just a touch more than mere venting.

I'm doing a little bit of remodelling (just a few blog posts in so this, I think, is really the best time for such a thing) particularly with the photos and improve on the text for future posts.

I'd taken creative writing back in uni but I never really mastered the art of writing as myself, so I would seriously like to take this "vanity outlet blog" of mine...well, seriously, and make it into something of a practice space for me to not just express my new-found love for and enjoyment of all things pretty (fashion or cosmetics) but to also to continue honing my skill as a nonfiction writer.

Elianto Shimmer Sticks

Just a (still sealed) close-up preview of my collection of Elianto Shimmer Sticks since my original photo set didn't show the colours too clearly.

As planned, I'm going to start opening these and experimenting with them. I'm taking into consideration kiwikira321's suggestion to use the Too Faced base, though I may have to look for an alternative since I've never seen Too Faced on sale locally. Etude House might have a good one and M.A.C. is another one to consider. Or perhaps a good layering of moisturiser and powder?

I now make it a point to wear some make-up whenever I leave the house just because it's such a waste to collect the stuff and not use it. And I do enjoy collecting pretty make-up products.

I used:
  • Myra Daily Sun Protect SPF 15
  • Maybelline Clear Smooth Extra in Honey
  • Nichido Eye Pencil in Metal Blue
  • M.A.C. Lustre Eye Shadow in Aquadisiac
  • Ever Bilena Blush in Starlight Shine
  • The Face Shop Lipstick in PP403
  • M.A.C. Amplified Creme Lipstick in Craving
  • Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black
It's my favourite thing to do to have a very basic look with just a pop of eye colour. The fiancé approves a lot though. He likes it when I use really bright pops of colour, particularly on my eyes.

I realised just now that I tend to favour the left side of my face in photos. I suppose it's a little automatic of me since I use my right hand to shoot. Or something. I'll do my best to practice other angles. ^.^

Fabulous

I think that will be my theme for this year.

"FABULOUS"

Just saying it makes me smile.

It's about feeling fabulous

There have been so many things I'd turned my nose up at in the past that I totally go for or approve of now.
Take, for example, anti-cellulite massages. I used to think it was a huge joke but apparently, it works because after I had one, firends commented that my legs looked much better! They're still huge in my opinion, but they've begun to smooth out and get less jiggly which I like.

To that end I also thank Skechers' Shape-ups because it delivered as promised: a gym workout with less effort, just keep walking. Our busy schedule has us walking the dogs two to three times a week now and even with that I feel the burn and see results.

As a bride-to-be, it's important to me to look fabulous on the day but I am a firm believer in the fact that feeling fabulous is a huge factor in looking fabulous. And actively doing something to improve my self-image is seriously upping the ante on that.

Eleven more months!

From Charlene Fernandez Bobis: Have You Ever Been?

From her Wordpress blog:

I’ve noticed that a lot of people who try to impose their beliefs on others are ignorant of consequences. The belief is often more important than reality. So instead of lecturing at you about something I believe in, I’ll tell you a little story and you can draw your own conclusions. (Keep reading the post...)

This whole RH Bill fiasco (and I do consider it to be one heck of a fiasco) has rather successfully turned the entire country topsy-turvy.

Layering

Sometimes I learn something, sometimes, I learn to do some things better.

I'm actually a huge fan of layering though I've never really been all that good at it. If you're like me in that sense then you'll love the January 2011 issue of Cosmopolitan Philippines which as three samples of layering for tropical weather.

And er, no, I don't work for Cosmo or Summit. I'm merely a fan who's learning from the experts on how to look good and feel fabulous. I just happen to prefer Cosmo over most other local and localised magazines. ^_^

Date Night

My fiancé and I were meant to attend a business meeting that night but it was cancelled at the last minute leaving us all dressed and literally nowhere to go. We'd been working on some fairly heavy stuff all day so we decided to make a night of it and went for a dinner date to give ourselves time to unwind and relax.

This look is a result of what I slowly put together as the afternoon progressed, believing we would be on our way to a meeting by evening.

I know I ought to finish the Ireland 2012 series but...

Well, let's just put it this way: there are far too many pictures to wrap my head around at the moment.

So let's go travel elsewhere for a while.

I've had this entry bookmarked for a few months now (take a look at the blog entry date). It's an entry by Chantelle, a.k.a. Fat Mum Slim, on her blog and it talks about little language nuances which, in her case, are Australian.
I took this photo on the weekend, while visiting a Farmer’s Market. It’s controversial and I didn’t know it. I shared it on Instagram and people got a bit ‘funny’ about it, because ‘spunk’ means something else. Other than good looking that is. Let’s not go there. (Keep reading her entry here.)
I am no stranger to such strange words, phrases, and word use. In fact, I have been as much a user of strange words, phrases, and word use as I have been a victim of it.

Left Behind #3: Eyes, Lips, and Cheeks

When I was six I used to go through my mum's and aunt's drawers without their knowing it--so I believed though I still don't know if they ever figured it out--and I would play with their make-up. Naturally it was the eye shadows that I played with most and eventually it was my grandmother's stash that I was openly allowed to muck around with, exploring all sorts of combinations.

From Charlene Fernandez Bobis: Rude, Crude, and Vile (with apologies to Weird Al Yankovic)

First of all, this story is one told by my former university professor turned friend, Charlene Fernandez Bobis (shameless plug on her behalf, she is the author of Misadventures of a Disorganized Young Woman--go read it if you haven't yet!). She wrote this about two months ago but I've only managed to get around to sharing it now. I'm re-blogging it as a copy-pasted article as I don't believe it can be linked to.

These are the products that were left after I decided to do my year-end clean up. Who knew I had so many products? I certainly didn't. <.<

This is my full collection of brushes and other tools. For a non-professional, I feel like I have way too many tools in my case but at the same time, my lack of experience seems to call for a wider variety of brushes to make product application easier for me.

Information Update: The Face Shop Baked Shimmer Palettes

Note: This is an old entry reposted from my old blog called Boudoir Angel on Tumblr. I'm reposting all of these old entries because I plan to delete my old blog and consolidate everything to this one. When I went to the mall I went to check the actual palettes for The Face Shop Baked Shimmer. Apparently there are five palettes:
  1. Highlight
  2. Pink Nuance
  3. Apricot Nuance
  4. Gold Nuance
  5. Plum Nuance
I had no camera with which to take photos of each palette but I think I'll try and ask if I can snap swatch images for my blog when next I go to a store.

Yesterday I posted items from my humble collection of cosmetics--and as I don't have an actual boudoir yet, it shall have to stay that way until we've made space for that somewhere in the house. ^_~

Anyway, my little make-up tool box (shown below, occupying a small corner of my bottom office shelf in front of my anti-stress DVDs)

was inspired by the organizational style of Marlena from Makeup Geek.com, who featured in several YouTube videos how she, as a professional make-up artist, stores and organizes her stash.

A quick view of my new make-up box and its contents.

This Lock & Lock box is actually intended to be a first aid kit but when I saw it I immediately thought "Make-up kit!"

First of all, I love that the lid is securely fastened by locks going all the way around ; typical of the structure of any Lock & Lock container.

The first aid kit has a total of seven compartments. 2/3 of the box is occupied by stacking compartments. The top bit is divided in quarters while the bottom bit is divided in half by a removable divider. The remaining 1/3 is just a tall compartment probably meant for alcohol, etc.

Below are the images of how I arranged my cosmetics inside the kit.

Fashion Fact #1: Couture

I'd honestly personally assumed that "couture" was simply a fancier way of referring to fashion in its entirety (attire, styling, accessories, etc.) but apparently it's way more than that. And there are guidelines for it too.

Read more about it from Ms. Jessica Quirk via her blog, What I Wore.

From Tony Burgess on Tumblr: Being The Black Sheep, It Takes Courage

Being The Black Sheep, It Takes Courage - Its tough being a black sheep in ones family. However if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything. ...
I particularly like his term marching "to the beat of a different drummer" because it is true for me. There is a recognizable zeitgeist propelling most of the populace in a certain direction. And then there are those like me...like us...who just seem to think and feel differently.
