I'm a 30-year-old newly-wed who prefers to think of what I do for a living as moonlighting as an entrepreneur and investor while being a housewife which I consider to be my career.
I know this can potentially spark yet another discussion on whether or not being a housewife is a career but my opinion on it is this: there's nothing wrong with being a wife, mother, and participant in the corporate world and there is nothing wrong with being a wife and mother period. They are equally rewarding in my opinion, each choice presents unique challenges, and I have the utmost respect for both sides. I simply choose to call my being a housewife my career because it is what I want to do with my life: stay at home, mind the household, and raise my family. Anything else I get into will be a separate reward.
I write a lot so I suppose I can call myself a writer if taken from that perspective. I don't write professionally, not yet, but I'm working on that. I did graduate from the University of the Philippines with a BA Creative Writing degree and while what I write here would fall under creative nonfiction, I find it far easier to write fiction. I've been called strange because of this but that's me. I've found that my biggest problem is that I find myself and my life to be rather plain and boring. As a consequence, my own writing voice feels rather fabricated and unnatural. It's something of a forte of mine to write in another person's voice.
I love to travel and will take any opportunity presented to visit any place I've not seen before or go back to a place I fell in love with. It was during this recent trip to Ireland for my best friend's wedding that I rediscovered my love for photography and have vowed that this year, I will pursue improving my skill in that art so I can move up to my old dream of being a photojournalist for National Geographic. Well, it's that or simply freelance as both writer and photographer.
The purpose of this blog is simple. It's my way of sharing my growth journey from being a newly-wed onwards for online posterity as I train myself to write in my own voice, hopefully in a manner interesting enough for other people to read, and hone my photography skills as I write this blog.
It'll be a huge bonus to know that there are people who enjoy reading my blog so please do let me know by commenting. :)
